To help remove any concerns you might have about the quarantine costs when you first arrive in the UK, we are proud to launch the Cranfield International Arrivals Bursary.
This means you do not need to worry about the costs to you or whether your country of departure is or will be categorised as ‘red’, ‘amber’ or ‘green’ under the UK Government's traffic light system for international travel.

What it covers

Overview

This bursary will:

  • cover the cost of any Covid testing that you are required to take on arrival in the UK, in line with Government guidance;
  • provide you with accommodation on the Cranfield campus and all of your meals, both free of charge, for the period that you need to quarantine on your arrival. This is regardless of whether you will be studying at the Cranfield campus or at Shrivenham. If you are required to stay in a Government quarantine hotel, this cost will be covered (please read full details below);
  • provide you with free travel organised by the University to the Cranfield campus from the following airports – London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, London Luton, London City and London Southend.

This should remove any concerns you might have about the potential quarantine costs when your first arrive into the UK.

The UK Government has introduced a traffic light system for international travel and is categorising countries as ‘red’, ‘amber’ or ‘green’. There are different rules to follow, depending on which category the country you are travelling from has been classified. There are also various Covid testing and quarantine costs associated with travel from each of these countries. The costs that the University will cover through this bursary are highlighted below.

Travel from a red country

Cranfield will:

  • cover the cost of the Government quarantine hotel package, which also includes the Covid tests required to be taken by the UK Government - you can book the hotel package here;
  • provide you with free travel organised by the University to the Cranfield campus following your stay in a quarantine hotel. If you are studying on our Cranfield campus, you can book this service through EVE, our student portal, which you will have access to when you register. If you will be studying at Shrivenham, our transport team will contact you about how you can book this service.

Travel from an amber country

Cranfield will:

  • provide you with accommodation on the Cranfield campus and all your meals*, both free of charge, for the period that you need to quarantine on your arrival. If you are going to be living in private accommodation, we will provide you with accommodation on the Cranfield campus and all your meals*, both free of charge, for the period that you need to quarantine on your arrival. This is regardless of whether you will be studying at the Cranfield campus or at Shrivenham.
  • cover the cost of any Covid testing that you are required to take on arrival in the UK, in line with Government guidance;
  • provide you with free travel organised by the University to the Cranfield campus from the following airports – London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, London Luton, London City and London Southend. If you are studying on our Cranfield campus, you can book this airport meeting service through EVE, our student portal, which you will have access to when you register. If you will be studying at Shrivenham, our transport team will contact you about how you can book this service.

Travel from a green country

Cranfield will:

Family members

Testing and Government quarantine hotels

  • Unfortunately, we are not able to cover the costs for family members of the Covid tests required on arrival in the UK, or the cost of any Government quarantine package for family members.

Travel to the University

  • If your family members are arriving in the UK with you, we will organise free travel for all of you to the Cranfield campus from the following airports – London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, London Luton, London City and London Southend. You can book this airport meeting service through EVE, our student portal, which you will have access to when you register.

Food

  • If you are living in family or couples accommodation, you will be able to order groceries online and have these delivered to your accommodation. While you are quarantining, we will deliver weekly food boxes to you, free of charge, to provide you and your family/partner with essential items to supplement your online grocery deliveries. Please see the list of supermarkets below that offer contact-free deliveries in the local area:

Eligibility

The Cranfield International Arrivals bursary is automatically available to students who meet all three criteria below:

  • you are an international student travelling to the UK from overseas;
  • you will be studying full-time on a taught or research programme;
  • you are commencing your studies between 1 June 2021 and 31 October 2021.

How to apply

You do not need to apply in advance for this bursary.

The costs that the University will cover will be deducted from your fees or where this is not possible, due to timing of your payment, you will be reimbursed shortly after your arrival at Cranfield.

Please keep the receipts/invoices for any costs that you have incurred relating to the purchase of the Covid tests that you are required to take on arrival in the UK and the costs of Government quarantine accommodation, if this is necessary.

Applicable courses

  • All full-time taught programmes;
  • All full-time research programmes.

How to claim

 Please send copies of invoices or receipts to:

sf-international-arrivals-covid-bursary@cranfield.ac.uk for any of the items listed below:

  • Day 2 test
  • Day 8 test
  • Managed quarantine hotel package

You can send these as soon as they have been booked and paid for, you do not need to wait until you have arrived in the UK.

Please include your student number in all communications.

How you will be reimbursed

The costs you have incurred will be deducted from your tuition fees. If these have been fully paid or are due from a sponsor, then the costs will be deducted from your on-campus accommodation charges.

If you are living in private accommodation and your fees are sponsored or have been paid in full, we will reimburse you into your bank account once you have completed your stage 2 registration.

Please confirm in your email to us with your invoice/receipts (sent to the address above) if you are living in private accommodation off campus and your fees are sponsored or have been paid in full. Please do not provide any bank details at this stage - we will be in touch with you once you have registered with information on how to provide these to us securely.

What is not covered under the bursary

  • Costs incurred for family members – unfortunately, we are not able to cover the costs of Covid tests or Government quarantine packages for family members.
  • Pre-arrival tests – we are not able to cover the cost of any tests you may need to take before travelling.
  • Test to release – if you choose to take a test under the ‘test to release’ scheme, we are not able to cover this cost.
