Call for Abstracts
Cranfield University is hosting the 2017 Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) Symposium, on behalf of the Sector Skills Strategy Group (SSSG) of the explosives industry.
We have pleasure in inviting you to contribute by presenting a topic to complement those provided by invited speakers. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Design Certification, Qualification and Life Assessment”
The symposium will use real life examples to explore issues including: what it is that industry thinks it is supplying to MOD; what MOD thinks it is getting from industry; and how Project Teams bring these together to meet the requirements of users and regulators.
Topics of interest may include, but not exclusively:
• Requirements of the services – the perspectives of the Front Line Commands
• Project Team’s perspectives of the issues and challenges associated with the development, qualification and life management of OME
• A view from the regulatory community
• Approaches to Development testing
• Safety and Suitability for Service, Type Qualification and Life Assessment
• Sequential and non-sequential environmental trials.
• Surveillance and life extension
• The Certificate of Design
• OME Safety Assurance – policy and process
• Statistical confidence levels – what is the data actually telling us?
• Research: knowledge, tools and techniques to increase confidence and underpin assurance
If you wish to submit an abstract on the topics listed above, or on a topic that you consider is also relevant to the overall theme, please email your abstract of around 200 words by Friday 26th May 2017.
Papers should be planned to take 20 minutes to present, followed by 10 minutes for questions. Acceptance of papers will be notified at the beginning of July.
