This year’s annual history of motorsport lecture is “Reid Railton – Man of Speed”. The lecture will be delivered by Cranfield University Motorsport MSc Visiting Fellow Karl Ludvigsen.

Karl Ludvigsen has devoted a lifetime to the automotive industry as a senior executive in companies such as General Motors, Ford and Fiat and as a researcher, journalist and an author of numerous books and articles. Karl’s histories of marques are considered the standard works on these subjects. Karl's acclaimed series on racing drivers includes Alberto Ascari, Dan Gurney, Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Bruce McLaren and the great Juan Manuel Fangio. On the 7th June 2017 Karl Ludvigsen will provide a fascinating insight into the scope and depth of the work of Reid Antony Railton (1895-1977), British engineer who worked in his native land to 1940 when he and his family moved to California. The lecture, organised in relation to the MSc Advanced Motorsport Engineering will be held in the Vincent Building (52a) Auditorium.
