This masterclass aims at delivering the fundamental principles and science, applications and operation of UV and advanced oxidation processes for pesticide and micropollutant removal in drinking water systems.

Advanced oxidation processes are complex and powerful chemical treatment processes. Their operation and performance is affected by water quality and upstream processes and it can also influence downstream water quality. In this masterclass you will have the opportunity to learn more about the science and how advanced oxidation works and how to link that knowledge to plant operation and applications.

Course structure

This unique masterclass will be delivered live online over 3 hours by Dr Irene Carra who is a Lecturer in Chemical Processes. Her research interests focus on advanced treatment for the removal of pollutants from water sources and she is currently leading research on advanced oxidation processes for the removal of micropollutants, their fate and by-products formation.

What you will learn

You will learn about how UV and advanced oxidation processes work, how to optimise their application for micropollutant removal, the impact of upstream processes in their performance and potential impact on downstream water quality.

Core content

  • UV and advanced oxidation processes science and fundamentals,
  • Applications,
  • Operation of UV and advanced oxidation systems.

Who should attend

This masterclass is aimed at individuals looking at improving their knowledge of UV and advanced oxidation processes for micropollutant removal in drinking water and those involved in the design, operation and testing of UV and oxidation plants.
