The aims of the Operations Excellence Institute are to enhance learning and teaching through novel approaches, to engage students with the design and delivery of the learning and to expand knowledge exchange activities of Cranfield University through clustering and collaboration with small manufacturing companies.
The Institute works closely with the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Through-life Engineering Services, utilising its expertise, technology and knowledge for project and course content.
The Institute was founded in November 2013 with funding from HEFCE and contributions from industry.
Our facilities and resources
The Operations Excellence Institute learning laboratory comprises a virtual reality and simulation suite, breakout areas with video screens and advanced telepresence. The simulation suite enables visualisation of complex engineering data, and different levels of simulation software for: value stream mapping, discrete event simulation, multi-agent simulations and dynamic uncertainty and risk simulation. In addition, there is access to a non-destructive test system for training, research and collaborative working, which integrates a number of automated evaluation technologies and techniques, plus 3D scanning capability.
Online versions of existing executive master's programmes will be developed, supported by expert mentors and delivered jointly with face-to-face courses within the multi-modal learning laboratory. The telepresence facility allows those attending face to face courses to mix with attendees in the virtual space.
