Chancellor and Senior Officer
Baroness Young of Old Scone has served as Chancellor of Cranfield University since 2010, taking over from Field Marshal The Lord Vincent of Coleshill who served for a 12 year term.
Baroness Young of Old Scone, created a Life Peer in 1997, has had a career in public service in health, the environment and broadcasting. Following 20 years in health service management, she has been Chief Executive of the RSPB and the Environment Agency, Chairman of English Nature and Care Quality Commission and Vice-Chairman of the BBC. She is currently chairman of the Woodland Trust and is President and Vice-President of a range of wildlife and conservation charities.
The Chancellor is the University's senior officer who presides over the University's Court, and over degree ceremonies. She is empowered to confer the University's degrees and other distinctions, both on successful students and on people nominated for honorary degrees.
