Cranfield's senior team includes senior officers and a senior management team. The Officers of Cranfield are responsible for the governance of the University through Council and Senate. They work alongside our senior management team who deal with the day-to-day running of the University.
Officers of the University
The Officers of the University are the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Secretary and Chief Operating Officer.
Chancellor – Baroness Young of Old Scone
The Chancellor presides over Graduation ceremonies and is empowered to confer the University's degrees and other distinctions, both on successful students and on people nominated for honorary degrees.
Pro-Chancellor – Dame Deirdre Hutton
The Pro-Chancellor is chair of the University's Council, which is the executive governing body of the University. As such, the Pro-Chancellor plays a leading role in the governance of the University.
Vice-Chancellor – Professor Sir Peter Gregson
The Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor is responsible to Council for all the University's activities.
University Visitor – HRH The Duke of Kent
The Visitor is appointed by Her Majesty The Queen. He has 'the right from time to time … to direct an inspection of the University, its buildings, laboratories and general equipment and also an enquiry into the teaching, research, examinations and other work done by the University'.
Senior management team (SMT)
The SMT is constituted to contribute to the strategic development of the University. It is constituted to support the Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor in exercising their delegated authority and responsibilities under the University's Laws. Membership of the SMT comprises the Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor as Chair, members of the University Executive, members of the Professional Services Executive, Directors of Themes, Directors of Education, Directors of Research and Directors of Executive Education.
