Information for Malaysian students wishing to study a postgraduate programme at Cranfield University.

Cranfield University has a vibrant international community and has been a popular destination for Malaysian students.

Cranfield has extremely close links with some very prestigious Malaysian universities where a large number of senior academics across all disciplines are Cranfield alumni.

As an exclusively postgraduate university with an average student to staff ratio - 5:1 that is one of the best for any university in the UK and the world, Cranfield offers students from Malaysia an excellent teaching environment that is supported by world-renowned academics, state-of-the-art unique facilities and close engagement with industry. In addition to providing a professional working environment, Cranfield also offers Malaysian students the opportunity to enjoy campus life and get involved in a wide variety of clubs, societies and associations. Our years of experience working with students from Malaysia have enabled us to cater for their specific academic, religious and dietary needs.

The majority of eating outlets on campus provide Halal certified food and a mosque is available on campus, run by the Cranfield Islamic Society. The campus is a very family-friendly environment with on-campus facilities such as a crèche, shops and a bank.

Cranfield has excellent links with the Ministry of Education (MoE) as well as a number of top universities in Malaysia. Cranfield representatives make regular visits to Malaysia to hold meetings with academic colleagues on matters of collaborative research and delivering lectures. We also attend student recruitment fairs to meet prospective students face-to-face and assist with any queries they may have.

Academic requirements

Our general entry requirement is a UK Honours degree (minimum second class lower) or international equivalent. Our Admissions Office staff have extensive knowledge of a wide range of qualifications from all over the world and will assess your qualifications against our UK entry requirements. Applications are considered on an individual basis and the information provided here is intended as a general guide. Holding this level of qualification does not guarantee entry and some programmes may have higher entry requirements.

Requirements for individuals from Malaysia

  • Bachelors degree

Full entry requirements for individual courses can be found on the individual course pages. Please read them carefully as there can sometimes be additional requirements.

To search our courses, visit our Course finder.

English language requirements

English is not the only medium of instruction in your country. We may be able to accept evidence from your institution stating that English was the only language of instruction and assessment as meeting our requirement. Otherwise you would be required to provide evidence of your English language ability as per the below requirements:

IELTS - 6.5

TOEFL - 92

Pearson PTE Academic - 65

Cambridge English Scale - 180

Cambridge English: Advanced - C

Cambridge English: Proficiency - C

In addition to these minimum scores you are also expected to achieve a balanced score across all elements of the test. We reserve the right to reject any test score if any one element of the test score is too low.

Some courses may specify higher test scores so please check your course webpage for details of the English language requirements you will be expected to meet.

We can only accept tests taken within two years of your registration date (with the exception of Cambridge English tests which have no expiry date).

Students requiring a Tier 4 (General) visa will also need to meet the UK Home Office Tier 4 (General) student visa English language requirements . The UK Home Office are not currently accepting TOEFL or TOEIC tests for Tier 4 (General) visa applications. Other restrictions from the UK Home Office may apply from time to time and we will advise applicants of these restrictions where appropriate.

I don't meet the English language requirement for my chosen course. What can I do?

If you have not met the appropriate English language requirement for your course, you could consider one of our Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses. They are offered to international students who do not meet the minimum scores as stated above.

English language classes are also run by The British Council at language schools in your own country.

Kaplan International College London (KICL) offers preparation programmes for those who do not meet our direct entry requirements. Students who study the Graduate Diploma, specialising in either Business, Science or Engineering, can then progress directly to Cranfield. KICL can even integrate Pre-sessional English Language modules with the Graduate Diploma to help improve your English language skills. On completion of the course to the required grade and conditions stipulated in your offer letter, you are guaranteed progression to Cranfield University. More information about KICL.
