International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) 2021

Welcome to our page that celebrates engineering heroes! Earlier this year, we launched a fun and exciting challenge for children aged 4-14, encouraging them to find out about the amazing possibilities of STEM and showcase their very own engineering heroes by taking part in our activities! We are so excited by the masterpieces we have received so far, which can be viewed below, that we are keeping our exhibition open to more entries – so there’s still time to work as a family, class or on your own and join our hero alliance! All the details are below.

#INWED21 is celebrating the amazing work that women engineers around the world are doing, not just to respond to the pandemic, but also to support lives and livelihoods every day – the best, brightest and bravest women in engineering, who recognise a problem, then dare to be part of the solution; who undertake everyday ‘heroics’ as much as emergency ones. We have launched our ‘engineering heroes’ activity, inviting children aged 4-14 to take part and become an engineering hero.

We want to inspire boys and girls by showcasing our Cranfield heroes plus heroes from some of our partner organisations – about the possibilities of STEM and the broad range of roles our heroes are working in.

Celebrating #INWED21 with our engineering heroes exhibition – 23 June

This fun and challenging activity will culminate in an online exhibition of entries from schools, groups, families and individuals joining our hero alliance – on 23 June – so, be an engineering hero with us this summer!

Activities will be available for download from 14 May. You can do your engineering hero activity and send it to us by 10 June.

About the activities

We have designed activities for ages: 4 to 7, 7 to 11 and for 11 to 14.

Activities for younger children are suited to a single lesson (or other group session setting), as a family group activity, or for individual children to enjoy with a parent or carer.

The challenge activity for older children (11 to 14) is designed to be more in-depth so that it can be completed over one or two sessions or done as a mini-project.
