The University hosts events on campus as well as attending events with key partners as part of initiatives to support schools, families and the public to engage with STEM.

Below are details of events and activities coming up that you can get involved in.

National Engineering Day – 2 November 2022

This annual day is all about changing perceptions of engineering. This year the Royal Academy of Engineering’s theme for the day is about ‘improving lives through engineering’ – both the improvements to our day-to-day lives and tackling the big challenges of our time.

You can find lots of great information and resources on the Royal Academy of Engineering’s website. To celebrate, we wanted to highlight just a few of our awesome technical colleagues to help change perceptions of engineering.....explore our technician profiles to discover how they help to make improvements to day-to-day lives and tackle the big challenges of our time..... #EngineerBetterLives #NationalEngineeringDay.

Big Boat Build – 8-9 February 2023

Cranfield University has a 30m wave tank facility that we use to put model scale structures in – to predict how they will react in the real world. Sometimes we run really big waves past structures to see if they will survive big storms or hurricanes.

We are inviting schools to design boats and then run them in the tank…while we try to sink or capsize them!

We are pleased to receive expressions of interest from schools in the Bedford and Milton Keynes area who would like to take part for pupils in years three to seven inclusive. You can contact us at…if you are brave enough to take on the challenge!
