What you will learn

The objective of this short course is to help you to explore the feasibility of Circular Ecosystems and Business Models and to enable its senior managers to co-create a viable roadmap for the implementation of these in the business. Students will be divided into functional teams, with each team working on one of the five alternative Circular Business Models.

The course is designed to encourage collaboration between students, through workshop activities and group work.

Core content

Each day will take place on consecutive days at Cranfield University’s Centre for Design Engineering (C4DE).

Day 1 - Sets up the challenge, introduces key concepts, and challenges you to engage in systems/ecosystems thinking.

Day 2 - Introduces design for circular economy principles and the circular ecosystems and business models, as well as touching on the role of digital technology in facilitating these. Splitting into teams, each will apply the concepts and frameworks to develop an outline circular value proposition, inspired by some case studies of achievements in other organisations. Teams will be expected to continue to develop the outline proposition, with input from the wider business.

Day 3 - Each team will present their proposals and receive feedback from faculty, their fellow participants, and other attendees during a half-day session.

Who should attend

The course is suitable for all creative and motivated individuals, innovators, entrepreneurs, managers, function and business leaders with an interest in developing new ecosystem value propositions from opportunities presented by the transition towards a circular economy. No previous experience of Circular Innovation is necessary.
