Hyo-Sang Shin, Professor of Guidance, Navigation and Control at Cranfield University, has been named as the 18th recipient of the Jeong Hun Cho Award.
The prestigious South Korean academic award recognises promising young scientists who have made significant achievements in the field of aerospace engineering. It is given in honour of Jeong Hun Cho, a former PhD candidate in the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology’s Department of Aerospace Engineering.
Professor Shin said: “I am honoured and delighted to receive this recognition in honour of Jeong Hun Cho. I am looking forward to continuing my work at Cranfield University; it is an exciting and innovative place to conduct research and teach the industry leaders of the future.”
Professor Shin is managing a growing and vibrant research portfolio and has initiated research in distributed estimation, decision making and cooperation improvement for multi-agent systems; networked control systems; and UTM (Unmanned Aircraft Traffic Management).

The award was endowed by the family of the late Ph.D. candidate Jeong Hun Cho who died in a rocket lab accident in the Department of Aerospace Engineering in 2003. Cho was posthumously conferred an honorary doctorate degree.
