Cranfield University has successfully won several scholarships through the British Council’s Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and GREAT scholarship campaigns, which aim to support international postgraduate students wishing to study in the UK.
The Women in STEM initiative invites applications from women from disadvantaged backgrounds across Latin America and the Caribbean wishing to get into, or progress within, a career in STEM. The programme aims to address the underrepresentation of women in STEM by offering fully-funded scholarships for a master’s degree* in the UK to women from:
- Mexico
- Brazil
- Colombia
- Jamaica
- Peru
- Argentina
- Cuba
- Venezuela
Cranfield University has been granted six scholarships, with successful candidates joining in autumn 2021. The programmes eligible for these scholarships focus on sustainability, the environment and Industry 4.0. The scholarships further endorse the University’s commitment to address gender inequality, as recognised in the achievement of our Institutional Athena SWAN Bronze award.
Professor Helen Atkinson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing at Cranfield, who was recognised by the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) ‘1 of the million’ campaign at the end of last year, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded six Women in STEM scholarships at Cranfield, in conjunction with the British Council. We are passionate about promoting women in STEM careers, and hope these scholarships will support those who are eager to work in the field.”
In addition, Cranfield has been awarded 16 GREAT scholarships, which serve the purpose of supporting postgraduate students from selected countries to access the world-class higher education opportunities the UK has to offer. Cranfield University will welcome applications across all programmes for the remaining opportunities from students from:
- China
- India
- Nepal
- Sri Lanka
- Indonesia
- Malaysia
- Mexico
- Thailand
Two further part-funded GREAT scholarships have been award to Cranfield University. These will be offered to students from Turkey and Egypt and apply to programmes that focus on sustainability**, which support Cranfield’s commitment to become a sustainable university, building on teaching, research and operational excellence.
Sarah Caine, Director of Global Engagement at Cranfield University, said: “We are delighted to partner up with the British Council and support these scholarship campaigns to encourage high quality applicants to study one of our specialist programmes.
“Those who are interested will need to apply to the individual course via the usual channels and then visit our dedicated scholarship webpages to submit an application for the Women in STEM or GREAT scholarships.”
