CEIGHE courses are delivered in collaboration with AGCAS and lead to an award by the University. All the courses are approved by AGCAS and provide evidence in support of the National Occupational Standards for Career Development. The MA is also approved by the Career Development Institute (CDI) as meeting the qualification requirements for the UK Register of Career Development Professionals.

Artificial Intelligence has seen a surge in popularity for taking over the traditional ‘human role’ in candidate selection procedures. The problem with using humans for large recruitment campaigns is that it costs more in man-power, they can make mistakes and be biased. Bizarre interview questions
Research reveals that conventional interviews are not always the best way for candidates to demonstrate what they do well, so from time to time interviewers may choose to ditch the task-focused questions and opt for something more light-hearted. This gives them a break from concentrating and offers interviewees the opportunity to be creative and show their skills and personality.

Mobile phones for job applications
Another major development in the last couple of year is the amount of job seekers using mobile phones to apply for roles. This boom has seen Recruiters having to ensure their websites are mobile-friendly, and application processes are streamlined to make it quick and simple to respond to a vacancy alert. We would always recommend that students take time and care when applying for vacancies, especially competitive graduate schemes, to ensure you give yourself the best chance of getting through to an interview.

Strengths based interviews
Graduate recruiters, such as Aviva, Standard Chartered, Ernst & Young, Barclays, Nestlé, Royal Mail, BAE Systems and Unilever all now use strengths-based interviews in their graduate recruitment process. This style of interviewing has a simple aim: to find out what you actually enjoy doing. Big employers have started moving away from traditional competency based methods, as applicants are understanding the required ‘formula’ and rehearsing their experiences just to get through the interview.

During 2018, a small number of students were requested to send their CV via a recorded (video) presentation. This is still a very unusual method of application, and really only applies to people in our design-led or marketing courses. However, if you do get asked to record yourself on film as part of a job application process, please contact Alexis Drake on firstname.lastname@example.org who will arrange some studio time for you on campus.

There are plusses and minuses to this new approach, and it’s gathering high profile followers such as Unilever and IBM. During a recent student recruitment conference in Singapore, our Head of Employer Engagement Helen Dalling, discovered more about this emerging Technology:

IBM have given this the humanoid name of 'Watson', to create a fun first engagement for their candidates - but more importantly, removes all human bias from the selection process."
