Areas of expertise
Gabriele achieved a MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Naples “Federico II”. His technical background includes both design and manufacturing aspects, with emphasis on material/process technology. He has also got a few years of industrial experience working on development of innovative composite technologies at Cytec Aerospace Materials (Wrexham, UK) and on thermo-mechanical modelling of composite structures exposed to high temperatures and enhancement of their surface properties by use of graphene at IMAST - Technological District on the Engineering of Polymeric Composite Materials and Structures (Naples, Italy).
Gabriele is currently undertaking an Engineering Doctorate in Composites Manufacture on “Composites Optimised for Rapid Production of Aerospace Components”. His research targets the challenges associated with accelerating the rate of production of aerospace structural components made of carbon fibre reinforced thermoset matrices. The project is sponsored by Hexcel Composites Ltd. (Duxford, UK) to support their advancements in the next generations of high performance aerospace components targeting rapid manufacturing. This EngD project focuses on the development and optimisation of curing strategies of composite thick primary structures to reduce temperature overshoot risk and process time whilst keeping/improving current aerospace grade quality. He is interested in the design, development and manufacturing cycle of composite structures and feels eager to contribute to the scientific/technical community knowledge by bridging the gap between academia and industry.
