Cranfield University’s Forensic Institute has been a home for innovation, expertise, and a strong centre for student community for years. 

The recent investment of £7.2 million into the latest forensic equipment, teaching spaces and experienced and industry relevant academic staff has meant that since 2021 will have a new and exciting direction for the department. 

Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) has a long history of providing the next generation of forensic experts, and alumni have gone on to work around the world for a multitude of public, private and government services. 

You will have the ability to use cutting-edge facilities in our new teaching spaces such as an in-depth digital forensics laboratory, virtual reality (VR) autopsy table and a simulated mass grave site.

CFI is home to multiple aspects of forensics; Archaeology and Anthropology, Ballistics, Counterterrorism, Explosive investigation have all found a home in our programme, but we continually look to enhance our teaching spectrum and bring you the latest and in-depth areas intrinsic to forensics.

CFI’s expertise, particularly in the area of materials analysis applied to forensic science, provides high-value consultancy for casework and testing that is high margin and supports the other activities.
