How do I apply for accommodation on campus?
Once you have been offered a place on a full-time course of study, you will be eligible to apply for University accommodation.
At the time we send you your course offer you will also be sent a user ID and password to our student web portal (EVE), where you can access our online accommodation application form. Ensuring that all students have equal access to the service, no matter how far away you live.
Applications for the 2013-14 academic year will open at the end of January 2013.
For courses which start in October each year, all applications for single accommodation received by 13 May are guaranteed an offer of a place in University accommodation. Do note, however, that we cannot guarantee your preferences as some categories are more popular than others.
Applications for single student accommodation received after the guarantee deadline will be considered until all of the accommodation is booked. If your application is unsuccessful you will be informed; information relating to off campus properties, and how to secure private accommodation in the local area will also be sent to you.
Once you have applied for accommodation you will be receive an email confirming receipt of your application. We usually make our first offers of accommodation beginning in April/May each year, and continue throughout the summer months, until all of the bedrooms are booked.
Applicants who have received an offer of accommodation, will be asked to pay a deposit in order to secure their booking; the deadline for the deposit payment is two weeks from the date the accommodation offer was made. Bookings are not secured unless the deposit booking is received by the deadline stated in the offer letter.
Room allocations and addresses will be sent to all successful applicants from late August/early September.
Payment of Accommodation Fees
How will I be invoiced?
Accommodation fees are invoiced for entire expected duration of the tenancy, or to the 1st October, if students have tenancies which continue after this date. You will also receive an invoice for personal belongings insurance, and for your bedding pack(s).
For new students, tenancies will commence on your day of arrival, or your course start date, whichever is earlier. Do be aware that students who arrive late for their course, will be responsible for the accommodation fees from their course start date, irrespective of their actual arrival date.
What are my payment options?
Accommodation fees may be paid on a monthly instalment basis by direct debit from a British bank account or by credit/debit card.
We accept Mastercard, Visa, Visa debit, American Express, Switch and Solo.
Direct debits will be collected from your account on or just after the 20th of every month.
Credit cards will be charged on or just after the 10th of every month.
The last instalment for taught course Masters students who commence their studies in October will be in August.
Please complete the appropriate form (provided at the time you collect your keys) and return as soon as soon as possible to Lanchester Hall Reception, Mitchell Hall Reception, or the Accommodation Office located opposite the Mitchell Hall launderette.
Any other method of payment for accommodation fees, i.e. cash or cheque, is payable three months in advance at the Cash Desk in Building 31 (Central Finance Office).
What happens if I want to stop/change my Direct Debit?
You will need to see the student finance team in Building 31 and also cancel the instruction with your bank. We need to be informed at least four days before the direct debit is due to be collected.
Who do I contact with any queries?
Queries relating to housekeeping, return of bed packs, changing and leaving accommodation should be directed to the Accommodation Office.
Finance related queries (refunds of deposits, invoicing and payments) should be directed to the 'finance student team' in Building 31.
