2012 Pre-sessional EAP Courses

Introduction

Our Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses are open to international students who are aiming to study at Cranfield University at post-graduate level. There are three courses each year starting in June, July and August. 

The courses are designed for students that have yet to meet their English language entry requirement and wish to gain an insight into Cranfield academic life before beginning their postgraduate study. 

Please note that we are unable to consider applicants who have already met the English language requirement for their postgraduate course offer. 

Working with a team of well qualified and experienced tutors we will aim to help you:

  • Improve your English Language skills to satisfy Cranfield University’s general English language entry requirement
  • Develop and improve your knowledge and use of academic English
  • Prepare for the kinds of assignments you will meet on your post-graduate course
  • Develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed in your academic studies
  • Introduce you to life in the UK and to UK culture

Course content

  • Understanding the process approach to academic writing
  • Developing critical thinking skills
  • Developing effecting reading strategies
  • Extended writing and research skills
  • Improving English grammar to support clear communication
  • Delivering a variety of effective presentations
  • Academic vocabulary development
  • Improving listening and speaking skills
  • Weekly tutorials with a personal tutor to support learning
  • Using online materials to support essential independent learning
  • Participation in lively seminars and debates

Assessment

Students are assessed throughout the duration of the course and progression onto postgraduate study is conditional on successful completion. It is not usually necessary to take an additional English test at the end of the course.

Cultural Programme 

The campus is conveniently situated for access to a wide variety of music, drama, film and other cultural events taking place in Bedford, and Milton Keynes.
Visits are organised as part of the summer programme. These may include trips to Oxford, Cambridge and Stratford, as well as places of particular relevance to our clients' academic interests.

Please apply using the application form as soon as possible. Applications must be submitted 4 weeks prior to the start of the course, applications received after this date are not guaranteed to be considered.
