Course overview

Critical to the future success and development of airports is the need to understand how their operations impact the environment and in identifying solutions to mitigate these impacts.  

This course introduces participants to the theory and practices of airport environmental planning and consists of a programme of lectures delivered by Department of Air Transport faculty, other academics and visiting speakers from industry. The course also includes an airport noise modelling workshop and an airport visit.  

 
Location

Cranfield University is located at the very heart of the UK – within the innovation triangle between London and the cities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Our central location provides easy access from the M1, excellent main line rail service as well as proximity to key international airports. Set in rolling countryside, Cranfield offers a rich, rural landscape complemented by thriving towns and picturesque villages.

  • Road: We are just 10 minutes from Junctions 13 & 14 of the M1 motorway. There is free parking on campus. 
  • Rail: Milton Keynes or Bedford 
  • Air: London Luton (22 miles), Heathrow (50 miles) or Birmingham (70 miles).

Course Director

Dr Romano Pagliari

Dr Pagliari is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Air Transport who specialises in airport business management and air transport economics. He is also course director for the full and part-time masters degrees in Airport Planning and Management.

Dr David Gillingwater

Dr Gillingwater is a University Fellow in transport studies at Loughborough University and specialises in airport planning and environmental protection. He is also a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Air Transport and a Visiting Professor at MMU’s Centre for Air Transport and the Environment.
