Re-skilling for a sustainable future

Cranfield University is to offer individuals directly impacted by the current economic crisis, an opportunity to re-skill and redirect their careers to take advantage of identified skills shortages in areas such as aerospace, air transport, automotive, computational, energy and systems engineering.
Between now and September 2010 Cranfield University’s School of Engineering is able to offer free places* on selected short courses** under a HEFCE Economic Challenge Investment Fund (ECIF) for sector re-skilling.
Our re-skilling initiative aims to provide postgraduate level engineers or technologists (STEM*** subject graduates) with expertise development in new areas. Attending the short courses should help eligible individuals to secure employment with a new employer, and will help those looking for a career change to find employment in a new sector. Companies can use the initiative to support the redeployment of personnel.

ECIF eligibility is indicated in the individual course descriptions. On the first day of the course, delegates will be asked to sign a declaration of current eligibility.
You can benefit from a free short course if you are*:
- currently unemployed
- expect to be made redundant
- on reduced time working arrangements with your present employer due to the current economic downturn
- are able to show that your current employment is seriously under threat due to the current economic downturn.
*Conditions apply - Delegates are required to meet specific criteria to be eligible for this funding. The number of funded places is limited to two courses per individual. While successful delegates receive free fee places under the ECIF initiative, they will be expected to pay for their own accommodation, travel costs and associated subsistence. View the Terms & Conditions for full details.
** You can view a comprehensive list of courses that are eligible for ECIF funding and this will also be indicated in the individual course descriptions.
