Current activities

Craig’s current teaching responsibilities include lecturing Airframe Systems Design, and Aircraft Performance. He also supervises design and research projects in the field of Aircraft Systems.

His current research interests include technology and systems integration for the more electric aircraft, airframe systems technologies for uninhabited air vehicles, and electrically powered ice protection systems for UAVs. He is also currently researching advanced actuation systems for morphing structures.

Background

Following the completion of a BEng (Hons.) in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, he came to Cranfield in 1999 to research a Ph.D. in Gas Turbine Instrumentation. On completion of the Ph.D. in 2003 he then joined the Aerospace Engineering Group at Cranfield University to work in Airframe Systems.

His research background includes tip timing techniques in aero-engines, where he has experience developing instrumentation and electronics for application on turbomachinery.

He has experience as the Chief Systems Engineer of the Demon UAV and the commander of successful flight trials of that vehicle.

Craig is an Associate Member of the RAeS, as well as serving as Cranfield Branch Honorary Secretary. Craig is a Member of the IET.
