Engineering IP Research Unit

Engineering Intellectual Property (IP) includes:

  • Patents on technical inventions
  • Design rights on product appearance
  • Copyright on software
  • Confidential technical know-how

For the engineering business, IP offers benefits but also costs and risks.  The Engineering IP Research Unit focuses on data and tools to help IP managers and legal advisors make the best IP decisions for their engineering business clients.

Current research interests include IP portfolio structure, IP-enabled business models and infringement risk management.  The Unit is also a source of information on the management and exploitation of the substantial volumes of IP generated in the School of Engineering.
