Aero-structure Assembly and Systems Installation Research Group
The Aero-structure Assembly and Systems Installation Research Group is a centre of excellence for research into the assembly of aero-structures developing breakthrough technologies in partnership with industry. The group’s expertise spans Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering and Human factors. A core expertise of the group is the application of automation to the assembly of large structures and the development of human and robot collaborative applications.
The group has state of the art facilities whose centre piece is an industrial quality partial wing box build jig. This allows the group to develop and test realistic scenarios for the application of new technologies to aero-structure assembly and supports the group’s aim to develop technologies beyond the levels achieved by normal laboratory based research.
The group works closely with Industry with staff working both at the university and deeply embedded within companies. Details of some of the research and consultancy activities undertaken by the group can be found on the research pages of this website.
