Business Travel Research Centre

The Business Travel Research Centre is a source of applied consultancy capabilities and excellent training for the air transport and associated industries.
The Business Travel Research Centre is located at Cranfield University's Department of Air Transport, the largest air transport management faculty in Europe with a global reputation for excellence in applied research. BTRC draws together research and learning about the business travel sector undertaken over a ten year period.
The objective of the centre is to develop in-depth understanding of the complexities of the business travel sector, and its importance within the air transport industry. By so doing it aims to provide insight of the business travel market to airlines, corporate travel managers, procurement specialists, travel management companies, and the academic community.
Projects include:
- Amadeus: “Travel Insurance as an ancillary revenue source” (Jan 2011).
- Omega Fund: “The Icarus Project – A Carbon Reduction Toolkit and Environmental Accreditation and Awards Scheme for Business Travel”. This project was funded by the Omega Partnership through a competitive tendering process. The project was conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Travel Management, the Aviation Environment Federation, and Cambridge University (Nov 2008).
- Association of Corporate Travel Executives/Amadeus: “Beyond the savings point: the impact of travel technologies in corporate end-to-end processes”. (Oct 2007).
- Amadeus: “A Study on the Adoption of Corporate Self-Booking Tools”, (January 2007), £30,000. Competitive tendering vendor selection. This research demonstrated that companies can reduce their travel purchasing costs by driving up adoption of self booking tools by their travellers, and they can also reduce the average cost of the tickets they buy. The study provided management guidelines to drive up adoption of these systems. Widely reported in the trade press, this study was used by the client to emphasise the potential savings their clients could make by driving up adoption of self booking tools.
