Study options

The MSc courses are comprised of eight assessed modules, group projects (dissertations for part-time students) and individual thesis projects. The MSc projects are often supported by companies, and full-time students often undertake project work at a company site. Part-time students' project work usually relates to their employment.

The two-year MTech programme has a stronger emphasis on project work with students working in their sponsors' businesses. MTech students also undertake the eight assessed modules.

Other study options include the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert).

Enhanced career prospects

Industrially relevant, the programmes are directed through an Industry Advisory Panel that ensures the courses are relevant to employer requirements. Cranfield Water Science Institute's postgraduates go onto rewarding careers with water utilities, environmental engineering consultancies, process contractors, equipment manufacturers and suppliers serving the international water industry, as well as companies where water and wastewater processing is a concern. Our students compete for prestigious awards including the British Water Prize, the Lorch Foundation Prize, the Degremont Prize and the Institution of Chemical Engineers' Prize.

Funding

There are a variety of  funding opportunities available. MTech students receive £10,500 p.a. plus a laptop computer. The Lorch Foundation continues its long association with the Cranfield Water Science Institute, providing a bursary of £5,000 plus fees to a suitably-qualified student towards an MSc research project based in pure water treatment. Other funding opportunities exist, such as industrial bursaries and School bursaries. For the majority of part-time students sponsorship is organised by their employers. Please note that a formal offer of a place on a course must first have been received before consideration can be given for funding.

Accreditation

Cranfield Water Science Institute's programmes are accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
