Course overview

The School of Applied Sciences Environmental Analytical Support team at Cranfield University invites you to an environmental analytical science short course. A 2 day in-depth course with lab demonstrations, designed for the soil, water and waste application areas. The course is aimed at scientists, engineers and technicians in industry who need to produce and/or interpret analytical data, with a view to becoming an ‘intelligent client’ for the procurement and review of analytical data.

Course description

  • Properties, fate, analysis and treatment of environmental pollutants
  • Sampling
  • Quality assurance concepts and practice
  • Basic analytical techniques (pH, spectrophotometric cell tests, BOD)
  • Analytical science concepts ( detection limits, error reporting, precision, accuracy)
  • Advanced analytical techniques (chromatography, mass spectrometry, atomic emission and absorption spectroscopy)
  • Presenting and communicating data
