Virtual Silverstone
Cranfield University announced a unique partnership with Silverstone for its postgraduate motorsport students in 2009.
The ‘Virtual Silverstone’ project allows MSc Motorsport Engineering and Management students to get involved with numerous activities including participating in track design, motorsport marketing, event management and a range of other business related issues.
The partnership offers an excellent opportunity for motorsport students to get as close as possible to the real competition environment and to gain a real insight into different aspects of the motorsport industry, including the management of large scale international motorsport events.
For the 2009-10 academic year, Silverstone have defined the industrial group project element of the course. The students will be investigating the relationship between the design and safety of a Formula Ford nose cone and the design of temporary barriers located around Silverstone’s Stowe circuit. The students will make recommendations for the most effective design and location for barriers that maximises revenue while optimising safety.
“Silverstone is delighted to be working with Cranfield on this groundbreaking partnership. Having the students work with us to come up with solutions to real motorsport business issues is an ideal learning environment for them and clearly has lots of benefits to us as a business. We are all really looking forward to working with Cranfield on this excellent learning opportunity.”
