Course description

The aim of the course is to provide delegates with an understanding of engineering in relation to competition cars and bikes. This is valuable to persons with a non-engineering background who have studied subjects such as physics and applied mathematics.

For those who already have studied mechanical engineering, it should help you place this understanding in the context of motorsport.

On completion of the course delegates will:

  1. Have an overview of completion vehicle types.
  2. Appreciate competition vehicle performance and dynamics.
  3. Understand competition vehicle electrical systems.
  4. Describe materials and structures as applied to motorsport.
  5. Have working knowledge of power train architecture.
  6. Appreciate competition vehicle design.
  7. Understand manufacturing techniques extant in motorsport.

Delegates will experience a race car being evaluated on the Cranfield University rolling road dynamometer. A visit to the Donington Park Collection will help delegates understand the evolution of the competition car.

Delegates coming on the course must provide their own safety boots in order to engage in practical sessions. All other personal protection equipment (PPE) is provided. You may want to bring your own overalls too.
