Course description

  • Performance specification of microsystems
  • Introduction to finite element analysis, review of FEA software packages relevant to MST
  • Modelling and simulation of micro-fabrication processes
  • Review of CAD and simulation software tools for MST
  • Practical examples (instruction and hands-on) illustrating use of software
  • Examples of MST designs applied to real-world situations
  • Design exercise.

On successful completion of this course delegates will be able to:

  1. Specify the performance of MEMS devices.
  2. Have a working knowledge of the  software tools that are available for MEMS design and their usefulness  in translating a specification into a practical design.
  3. Have an understanding of the interactions between MEMS functionality, MEMS fabrication processes and packaging.
