Soil is a key natural resource that needs to be managed successfully to support sustainable development. It is growing in economic importance because of a broader environmental agenda and new legislation. Poor soil management in many regions, including parts of Europe, has progressively degraded productive soils. This is putting global food security at risk in the context of a growing and increasingly wealthy global population.
Accredited by the Institute of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE), The Society for the Environment and the Engineering Council, this course provides students with expertise in the management of soil in agricultural and rural land systems, enabling them to develop, evaluate and implement soil management solutions that will optimise economic productivity while protecting the environment and conserving biodiversity.
Suitable for graduates from an agronomic or geographical science, applied biology or other related subjects; or professionals from either a science or technical background. The part-time option will allow practitioners to enhance their professional development within their current employment
Takes you onto a career in agri-business within farm advisory and the major regulatory bodies such as the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Environment Agency; major land management businesses, and large agri-food businesses.
You will be taught by our nationally and internationally renowned multi-disciplinary academic team. The team consists of scientists in soil chemistry, physics, biology and engineering with industrial and research experience
Entry requirements: Candidates must possess, or be expected to achieve, a 1st or 2nd class UK Honours degree in a relevant science, engineering or related discipline such as agriculture, engineering, environmental sciences, forestry, geography and geology, or the international equivalent of these UK qualifications. Other relevant qualifications, together with significant experience, may be considered.
