Online Learning Programmes

As prime contractor to BAE Systems, Cranfield University has worked with a range of industrial and academic experts to create a suite of innovative online courses. The unique courses are multimedia, tutor-led and interactive for a high quality learning experience. Previously delivered exclusively to BAE Systems and its partner companies, these courses are now available to the wider defence and aerospace audience worldwide. Each course engages up-to-date online learning technologies and employs the latest web-based software to deliver the material to the delegate at work or at home.

They are aimed at those working with engineers, including technicians, graduate engineers and non-engineering professionals across the defence, aerospace, naval and land sectors. They are delivered entirely online and are accessible worldwide (subject to internet availability).

The programme offers courses for professional engineers in the following topics:

Course Description

Each course comprises a number of study units delivered as an audio-visual presentation, discussion questions and assessed assignments. These provide the ‘tools’ required for the group project which follows the presentation sections. The group project involves working together in teams on a realistic project to fulfil demanding objectives within a tight time schedule and delivering results to a high professional standard. There is a tutor available who guides, advises and leads discussions. Assessment of assignments, discussion contribution and group project all contribute to an overall award; Pass, Merit or Distinction. On successful completion the delegate receives a signed certificate.

Schedule

Courses are scheduled twice a year in March/April and September (minimum number of delegates apply).

Duration

Principles of Cost Engineering and Principles of Engineering Integration take 12 weeks, all other courses are covered over a period of approximately 16-17 weeks. The delegate will typically spend an average of 5 hours per week working on the course.
