Manufacturing Department

The Manufacturing Department, under the direction of Professor Rajkumar Roy, has a highly active programme of industry sponsored research across the areas of manufacturing technology and manufacturing management. We are a major contributor to Cranfield being third in the UK for the impact of its mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing research*. Our focus relates to the key centres within the Department which include:

The Centre for Competitive Creative Design (C4D) is a £5.5 million partnership with the University of the Arts, London. At University-level we are a major contributor to Cranfield's Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre which is central to our manufacturing expertise, driving our research forwards across the University to benefit our external partners.

The Fellowship in Manufacturing Management is a prime example of how we work directly with the manufacturing sector, developing the expertise of individuals who go on to make significant contributions to organisations. It is through the Fellowship that we were awarded The Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education 2005. Cranfield University also is recognised for its excellence in teaching by three highly respected organisations in the manufacturing sector; the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). Two of Cranfield’s renowned postgraduate manufacturing programmes – MSc Operations Excellence and MSc Manufacturing - have received accreditation from these three organisations through the Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB).
