Current activities

Joanna Zawadzka has over 3 years of experience in Digital Soil Mapping (DSM) and related subjects. She is currently working on a number of DSM projects using statistical models that infer soil classes and soil properties. Joanna is also involved in the analysis of Digital Elevation Models with the aim of deriving terrain indices and landform classification schemes acting as ancillary datasets in DSM and Soil Information Systems.

Background

Joanna Zawadzka attained her MSc degree from Warsaw University of Life Sciences and Cranfield University, where she studied Protection of Environment and Geographical Information Management respectively. Over her studies she acquired understanding of processes occurring within all aspects of environment, coupled with technical skills essential for analysis and assessment of environmental resources. After graduating from Cranfield University she joined National Soil Resources Institute where she embarked on projects concerning Digital Soil Mapping and terrain analysis. In her work she is using a variety of GIS techniques and statistical modelling to extract information on soil and terrain characteristics.

Joanna is also conducting research on multiscale terrain analysis and delineation of terrain units supporting mapping of soil and soil properties.
