Current activities

Dr Shaomin Wu teaches risk management and reliability engineering. He also runs a number of projects, which relate to risk assessment, expert elicitation, statistical data analysis, warranty claim prediction. He has completed a number of projects in these areas and is currently working on the following EPSRC projects:

  • Managing risk and uncertainty in warranty servicing policy (PI. Funded by EPSRC. Grant Ref: EP/G039674/1
  • EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Through-life Engineering Services (CI. Funded by EPSRC. Grant Ref: EP/I033246/1);
  • Data Analysis for Improved Risk and Asset Management in the Water Utility Sector (PI: funded by Yorkshire Water and EPSRC);
  • Estimation of the price-demand relationship using auction data (funded by a leading global diamond trading company);
  • The role of control charts in serviceability assessment (funded by Ofwat).

Background

Shaomin’s research interests include risk analysis, reliability analysis, maintenance policy optimisation, warranty policy optimisation, and machine learning. He joined Cranfield University in 2007. He studied for an MSc and a PhD in Applied Statistics. He currently lectures on various topics in risk management, reliability engineering and statistical data analysis.

Shaomin has served as a co-chairman of an international conference and a PC Member of a number of international conferences in reliability engineering and computer sciences. He is also an Editorial Board Member on three international journals. Shaomin has published over 60 papers (more than half of them are international journal papers).
