Background

Dr Jeff Rao is a Senior Research Officer in the Sports Surface and Nanotechnology Institute in the School of Applied Science. His research encompasses the deposition and analysis of coatings for a wide variety of applications ranging from aerospace to motorsport and low-friction coatings for MEMS motors.

Over the years, Jeff  has worked on a number of projects such as the fabrication of an atomic-oxygen sensor for satellite applications and the fabrication of thin film crack monitors. Currently, he is working on the development of shape memory alloys for high temperature applications as well as working with Astrium on cryo-cooler materials.
