Current activities
Dr Ewan McAdam is the STREAM IDC Programme Manager. In addition, he works on several projects centred on future technologies for energy generation from wastewater treatment. This includes an EPSRC funded project which examines the feasibility of anaerobic processes for low strength carbonaceous wastewater treatment with an ambition to reduce dependence on energy intensive processing. Separate projects based on the development of novel technologies to achieve biogas purification and/ or augmentation of energy generation from wastewater treatment are also being undertaken; the remit includes investigation into the impact of configuration, unsteady state and long-term operation on process integrity.

Background
Following graduation from his first degree, Ewan worked for several years as a chemist (in both research and production positions) and subsequently as a consultant, working on risk assessment, IPPC and compliance issues across a number of industrial sectors. Ewan returned to academic study in 2003 at Cranfield University and completed a doctorate in engineering (EngD) which focused on MBR design for denitrification of potable water and ion exchange brines. He has stayed within the Cranfield Water Science Institute to continue work on the development of novel membrane processes in addition to undertaking various projects focused on future energy generation and carbon reduction in wastewater treatment.
