Current activities
Dr Peter Jarvis is the Programme Director for the Water Programme and the course leader for Water Process - MTechPeter's research is active in the field of drinking water treatment. Primarily, his research activities are in the development and delivery of research projects with Yorkshire Water. He is the principal investigator on two projects funded by Yorkshire Water to offer a more robust and sustainable treatment strategy for removal of natural organic matter compounds from drinking water:
- 'TiO2 for natural organic matter removal' (EPSRC & Yorkshire Water funded)
- 'Rapid fractination for water characterisation' (Yorkshire Water funded).
Primarily the aim of this work is to understand the link between raw water character and the impact this has on drinking water treatment.
Peter’s other research focus is on the characterisation and engineering of aggregates formed in water treatment which have helped establish Cranfield’s Water Science Institute as one of the leading players in this area. Peter has recently begun work on an EPSRC First Grant Award on ‘Characterising problem particles in water treatment’.

Background
Dr Peter Jarvis has been working in the Centre for Water Science since May 2005. Having obtained his PhD in Water Treatment from Cranfield University in 2004, he worked at Anglian Water in industrial research and development before rejoining Cranfield University in 2005 as a Post Doctoral Research Officer in the Centre for Water Science. In 2007, he became a member of academic staff when he was made an Academic Fellow and was promoted to lecturer in 2009.
His current research interests centre on applied research in drinking water treatment with a focus on solid-liquid separation processes and particle characterisation. Peter is currently the Yorkshire Water Lecturer in Water Sciences and looks after strategic research between the Centre for Water Science and Yorkshire Water. Dr Peter Jarvis has over 30 journal papers and conference communications to his name.
