Background

Since joining Cranfield University as a research fellow, Dr Tanvir Hussain has been active in the field of high temperature corrosion of materials in power generation industry to improve efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emission. He has been investigating the corrosion behaviour of ferritic steels, austenitic steels and nickel based superalloys for advanced ultra supercritical boilers. The performance of different coatings for fireside corrosion and steamside oxidation in high temperature future boilers are also studied in his research.

Dr Tanvir Hussain completed his doctoral research in the field of surface engineering using cold gas dynamic spraying from the University of Nottingham. He worked in collaboration with The Welding Institute (TWI) to develop a corrosion resistant titanium coating and he was awarded prestigious Overseas Research Studentship (ORS) for his PhD. He was also awarded International Thermal Spray Scholarship for his research. He has authored/ co-authored four papers in prestigious journals in surface engineering from his doctoral research. Before starting his PhD, he finished an MSc from the same university in Manufacturing Engineering with a Chevening scholarship. He is an active member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3).
