Current activities

Dr Gillian Drew is an environmental scientist with broad interests in environmental impacts of waste management and climate change issues.  Gill’s recent research has focussed on improving our understanding of bioaerosols emitted from composting.  This includes Environment Agency funded research into improving the dispersion modelling techniques for bioaerosols and analysis of patterns of bioaerosol concentrations downwind of composting facilities.  Gill has also developed guidance for the Environment Agency on the evaluation of risk assessments for composting facilities.

Alongside this work, Gill also manages the Defra funded project on Adapting to Climate Change Reporting.  She is also the Course Director for the MSc in Environmental Management for Business.

Background

Dr Gillian Drew joined Cranfield in 2005 as the Environment Agency funded Postdoctoral Fellow in amenity impacts from waste management. This project was focused on bioaerosols and odour from composting and landfill sites. Gill was promoted to Lecturer and Course Director for the postgraduate programme in Environmental Management for Business in October 2007.

Gill has a wider interest in environmental issues such as climate change.  She is an environmental scientist with expertise in climate, ecosystem and atmospheric dispersion modelling, as well as Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Gill has a BSc in Geography and Geology from Rhodes University, South Africa and a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental and Geographical Science, from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She completed her PhD degree within the same department, focussing on the interaction of climate and vegetation under changing climate regimes.
