Current activities
Dr Mark Craig is currently working with Rolls-Royce on the Samulet 2 project looking at advancing combustion performance within the aerospace industry. He is also researching the electrodeposition of novel coatings from both ionic liquids and aqueous solutions for all industrial sectors.
Dr Mark Craig formed and co-ordinates the Cranfield University Formula 1/Motorsport Research Group. The group is designed to transfer novel technology from the aerospace industry and develop it for motorsport in key areas such as advanced materials, composites, nanotechnology, powertrain design and precision engineering.

Background
After graduating in 1997, Dr Mark Craig went directly into the Thermal Spray industry working for a large independent spray shop. He continued to work within this field (both within the UK and Australia) for numerous companies until 2005. He specialised in coating and parameter development as well as material selection for customer supplied products.
Dr Craig then returned to the UK to undertake an MSc in Advanced Materials at Cranfield University, followed by a PhD titled ‘Manufacture of Novel Intermetallic Bond Coats from the Electroplating of Ionic Liquids’ which generated a number of patents.
