Current activities
Dr David Ayre is investigating multi-phase morphology of polymeric blends with respect to physical properties – thermosets and thermoplastics.
Background
Dr David Ayre obtained a BSc in Chemistry awarded by Durham University in 1985. He joined the Ministry of Defence (Chemical Defence Establishment) for a year and was involved in respirator technology. Following this he spent nine years as Assistant Chemist at the Heysham 1 and Heysham 2 nuclear power stations. During this period David became a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (1986) and achieved Chartered Chemist status (1993). Subsequently he studied for his PhD, investigating the rubber toughening of thermoplastics under Professor Bucknall at Cranfield University, and was awarded a degree in 2000. His current position at Cranfield University involves investigating toughening mechanisms and properties of various fillers in polymeric blends.
