Background
Dr Al-Ashaab graduated from the Autonomous Metropolitan University in Mexico with a degree in Food Engineering. She spent 5 years at Nottingham University where she obtained British Council grant to undertake an MSc, and a grant from the Mexican Government for her PhD. After a break in her career she has recently been awarded a Daphne Jackson Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellowship sponsored by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) to join Cranfield University’s Centre for Energy and Resource Technology.
The focus of her work is to develop methods for the improved modelling of downwind concentrations of bioaerosols and odour from organic waste treatment facilities. She collaborates closely with process operators and other researchers in this field, and directly contributes to the ongoing development of bioaerosol research at Cranfield.
