04 Nov 2011 - Cranfield alumnus to compete in Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone
Running with Cranfield University logos on the side of his car, former MSc Motorsport Engineering and Management student James Harvey is competing at Silverstone this weekend. Harvey will be cheered on by his classmates, many of whom now work in Formula 1. This will be James' first outing in his recently acquired Ray Formula Ford. The ex-Cranfield student ran at last year's Walter Hayes Trophy while studying at the University.
In recent years the Walter Hayes Trophy has established itself as one of the leading Formula Ford 1600 competitions in the world. Cranfield University, the National College for Motorsport and its drivers have enjoyed success at previous festivals with James Nash finishing as high as second in 2007 in the Cranfield Van Diemen FR92.
Cranfield University has a close relationship with Silverstone. Students often work on motorsport projects supported by the famous Grand Prix circuit's owners and compete for the Silverstone Group Design Project Prize.
