To get the most out of your study, English language preparation is vital for those for whom English is a second language. Such candidates will need to provide evidence of their English language ability with their application form.
We accept any of following tests as evidence of your English language ability, IELTS (International English Language Testing Service), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication), Pearson Test of English (Academic), Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English and Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English. The University also runs Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses for international students who are aiming to study at Cranfield University at post-graduate level. For further information please view the Pre-sessional EAP Courses page.
English language classes are run by The British Council at language schools in your own country.
Applicants with non-European Economic Area (EEA) nationality will be required to apply to the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) once they have received an offer from Cranfield University. Proof of acceptance into ATAS and an offer letter are required to obtain a student visa for study in the UK. Students must obtain entry clearance in their home country prior to travelling to the UK. Applications for entry clearance cannot be processed retrospectively once the student is in the UK.

Cranfield offers many awards which include MSc, MTech, PgDip, PgCert, MRes, MDes and MBA. We also offer a variety of doctoral programmes including DBA, PhD, DM, EngD and MPhil.

The majority of our full-time programmes begin in October, with our part-time programmes beginning in February and throughout the year. However, this does vary from course to course - we recommend that you check the course pages for further information on your chosen course.
Programmes offered at Cranfield Defence and Security usually begin in either September for full-time and January for part-time.
Cranfield doesn't operate on a specific closing date, however due to the competitive nature of our programmes, we advise early applications.
Unless otherwise stated, full-time MSc courses have a duration of 12 months. Part-time MSc students are expected to complete their course within two to three years. PhD programmes are typically three years in duration and EngD programmes are four years in duration. This time includes writing up the research completed.
There is a variety of accommodation available at our Cranfield and Shrivenham campuses and you also have the option to live off-campus.

Cranfield’s courses are very intensive. You should not, therefore, expect to finance your studies through part-time work.
This will vary depending on the exact area of study. However, Cranfield’s strong track record with industry means that our graduates are highly sought after by leading organisations internationally. We are consistently rated in the top 10 UK institutions for graduates obtaining jobs, or going on to further study.
Please provide a copy of your final degree certificate and transcript as evidence of your qualifications - if you are still completing your degree an interim transcript would be sufficient. An authenticated translation should be provided if the evidence is not in English. You will be required to bring your original documents with you when you register.
You need to include two references, of which one should be an academic reference.
If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language ability.

Cranfield campus is situated in Bedfordshire close to the border with Buckinghamshire, approximately an hour's drive north of London. The campus in located almost midway between the towns of Bedford and Milton Keynes and is conveniently situated between junctions 13 and 14 of the M1 motorway.
