In past years, Chevron and Cranfield have jointly developed a number of techniques for slug mitigation, including the Pseudo-Spiral-Tubes (PST) and the Inferential Slug Control (ISC). A number of areas have been identified for further development of these techniques.

This project aims to maximise the benefit of these techniques to make them easy to deploy in offshore fields and flexible for various field configurations.

Progress update

A new U-shape riser rig has been built in the Process Systems Engineering Flow Laboratory for this project.

The rig has a 2 inch pipeline loop containing a 9m downward arm, a 40m horizontal pipeline and a 10m riser, connecting to the existing three phase facility.
