Using our electronic resources

We subscribe to a wide range of quality electronic resources, and access to these resources is controlled in a number of different ways.

If you are on campus, you can usually link directly through to the resources because they will recognise the IP address of your PC.  You can also link directly to resources from off campus by logging into the University extranet with your University network username and password, and then accessing the resources using the 'on campus/via extranet' links provided.

If you are off campus and do not wish to use the extranet, you will need to use the appropriate username and password, which is specified in the link to the resource.  These fall into two categories:

Shibboleth

  • Login using your network username and password.  For further information on using Shibboleth, please see our How to use Shibboleth information.

Databases with unique usernames and passwords

  • A small number of resources have their own unique usernames and passwords which change frequently. To obtain a password contact us on 01234 754447 or 754451.

Using the Library catalogue

You can search the Library catalogue without logging on to it.  However you will need to log into your account (using your network username and password) to renew your books, place reservations or request interlibrary loans.

Logging on to a networked computer on campus

You will be given a username and password by the IT Department when you register. Your username cannot be changed, but your password can.
