Integrated Vehicle Health Management: Perspectives on an Emerging Field
This highly-anticipated book addresses both basic and advanced concepts critical for the understanding and support of the developing field of Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM). From an initial idea by the SAE IVHM Steering Group, collaboratively written by experts from academia, research and industry, the thirteen chapters within this book represent the collective voice of the most qualified authorities in the field.

Showcase UAV demonstrates 'Flapless Flight'
A novel unmanned air vehicle (UAV) which showcases a wide range of new technologies has successfully demonstrated ‘flapless flight’ in the UK. The UAV, called DEMON, made the historic flight from an airfield at Walney Island in Cumbria on Friday 17 September 2010. Developed by Cranfield University, BAE Systems, and nine other UK universities, DEMON is designed to be able to forgo the use of conventional mechanical elevators and ailerons which usually control the movement of an aircraft in favour of novel aerodynamic control devices using blown jets of air. Visit
Professor Hans-Joachim Schmid and Dr Eric Klemp from the Direct-Manufacturing Research Centre (DMRC), University of Paderborn, visited the Centre on 7 April 2010. The DMRC is another European Centre started by Boeing initiative. There are many parallels with the IVHM Centre and many lessons learnt in common.
“Plugged in places” electric vehicle
In support of Milton Keynes’ initiative, there was a photo shoot at the Centre on 9 April 2010. The IVHM Centre is involved in a consortium bidding to realise the Milton Keynes vision. If this bid is successful then it will demonstrate the first phase of an integrated low carbon living project at city scale.
