Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Critically analyse and apply the theoretical principles underlying the development of staff to allow more effective team organisation.
  • Critically analyse and evaluate the impact of working in multi-cultural situations and methods for managing cross-cultural issues.
  • Critically evaluate performance and reward management approaches in the context of the overall business strategy.
  • Critically analyse and evaluate different team and individual type indicator methods and their application as management tools.

Skills & Other Attributes

  • Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the key role of the line manager in managing human resources.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the importance of impartiality and managing conflict within the quality management environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of legislation and good practice in handling employee relations within the business environment.

3 days including lectures and practical sessions

The course is also Module 8 of Quality Management in Scientific Research and Development MSc. The course has been developed in partnership with BARQA (The Research Quality Association).
