Nutrition and health
It is important to establish the health benefits of food and individual dietary components. Furthermore it is also important to appreciate that food undergoes various changes in nutrient/bioactive content through pre-harvest, post-harvest events, contamination, storage and other factors. The newly established nutrition research group aims to understand how food quality issues and diet impact on human health.
We have expertise in nutrient and metabolite profiling techniques, dietary intervention studies, measurement of nutrient bioavailability as well as measures of whole body and cellular risk factors.
Current projects underway include the identification of biomarkers of an unhealthy diet using metabolomics.
