Research Assessment Exercise results

Kings Norton Library - Cranfield University

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) Cranfield has maintained or improved its reputation for the international quality of its research in all five areas of submission, which include:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Services
  • General Engineering and Mineral and Mining Engineering
  • Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering
  • Business and Management Studies.

We have also achieved significant results in many of the University’s areas of expertise.

Overall, 85% of all the research submitted for assessment has been internationally recognised in terms of its originality, significance and rigour, with 50% being internationally excellent and 15% world-leading.

Two key highlights include 25% of our business and management submission being assessed as world-leading, and being ranked third in the UK for the impact of our mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing research.

Given the continuous improvement in research seen across the higher education sector since RAE 2001, maintaining and growing Cranfield’s position must be viewed as a very positive outcome.
